MC Yogi in the New York Times
MC Yogi's over-the-top performance at the Wanderlust Festival in Lake Tahoe, CA, captures the attention of the New York Times:
"Perhaps no performer embodied the Wanderlust ethos more than MC
Yogi, a San Franciscan who practiced yoga in Adidas shell toes, which
didn’t stop him from putting his leg over his shoulder. He beatboxed
over the om chant, and with the help of some stilt-walkers, led a
parade from an arm-balancing class on Sunday to the stage underneath
the gondolas, where he did a yogacentric hip-hop show.
“'Say namaste!' he shouted into the mike. 'How many of you think Ganesh
is fresh?' Lined up on their yoga mats, the members of his audience
threw their hands in the air. 'We’re going to go old school — 4,000
years back,' MC Yogi promised, with intention. 'Y’all ready to shake
your asana?'”

...grew
up painting graffiti & listening to hip hop music. At age fourteen,
inspired by artists like the Beastie Boys & Run DMC, he began
writing his own raps and free styling for friends at house parties. MC
YOGI spent most of his high school years at a group home for at-risk
youth. During those turbulent years, Hip Hop culture provided both a
soundtrack and a creative outlet. Then at age eighteen, he discovered
yoga.
On a whim, he joined his father for a meditation intensive
with a famous spiritual teacher from India. Deeply moved by this
powerful experience, he devoted himself to learning everything he could
about the ancient discipline. He continues to study the physical forms
of yoga, as well as meditation, philosophy, and devotional chanting. At
age 20, he enrolled in a yoga teacher training program in San
Francisco. It was there that he met and fell in love with his wife
Amanda. Together they traveled to India, and upon their return opened Yoga Toes Studio in Point Reyes, California, where they currently reside.
